1. Login to the Logic admin using your email and password.
2. Go to the Commerce tab located in the left-side navigation bar. (Commerce must be enabled to see this option)
3. Select the "Products" link within the Commerce tab. The product directory page will display. Please note, if this is your first product, it will be empty.
4. Select the Add New Product button at the top right of the product directory page to open a new product form.
5. Enter the product name (as it should appear to customers). The URL Code field will be auto populated by a browser friendly url based on the product name. A different url such as a shortened version can be entered as well but this is optional. Product SKU is an optional unique identifier that is user defined. Display Name and Sorting Name fields are optional. Display Name provides an alternate name to appear on the front-end and Sorting Name is useful if the proper name interferes with logical or user friendly sort order when browsing products on the front-end. For example if you have a book named "The Great Gatsby" the Sorting Name can be changed to "Great Gatsby" so when listed, the title will show up within the Gs rather than the Ts of a list.
6. Add a Summary and Description. The summary is a short version of the description and should be limited to one or two short sentences. Summaries display in search results, product trays, and listing (category) pages. The Description is a long form field with a rich text editor allowing paragraphs of text to be styled with links, bolding, bullet points, and other style elements. The Description displays on the product detail page as well as optionally displaying in trays and search results in a shortened truncated version.
7. Additional fields for product specifications are listed below. All are optional and include fields for UPC/ISBN Code, Starting Inventory, Warehouse (if multiple fulfillment houses are available), Available Date, Price, MSRP, Handling Fee, Weight and Dimensions, Primary Category, Secondary Category, Additional Categories (a product can belong to as many categories as needed), and Collections.
8. Add meta data (optional) for search engine optimization (SEO). This includes product page title, meta description, and meta keywords. If none are entered, the product name and description are used by default. There is also an optional field to enter third-party tracking code or pixel from Google or other vendors.
9. The final two menus are for Featured and Status. The product "Featured" setting can be used to display featured products on the front-end on a tray or special page. The Status menu is set to Enabled by default. If a product is disabled, it will not display on the front-end or in searches but remains available in the back-end product directory.
10. Once all required fields are completed, select the save button to create the product and save all changes. Once a product record is created, you can continue to edit and add supporting content such as product images, videos, and variants.
11. Once the initial product has been saved, it is important to return to edit mode where new options for adding product images and variants will now appear. Images and variants cannot be added until the initial product record has been created.
Scroll down to the middle of the Product page below the SAVE button to see these additional options.
12. Add a product image in the Images section by selecting the Add Image button on the right side.
This will open the Add New Product Image form. Click on the Select Image button. this will open the Media Manager pop-up where you can select an existing image (if uploaded previously) or add a new image. If adding a new image, it is recommended that a folder structure is created in the Media Manager. For example, add a "Products" folder, and then a sub-folder for each product category. Then upload the image to the proper folder. This will make management of products easier in the future.
Add Alt Image Text (similar to an image caption or description that does not display but helps search engines and accessibility readers), select Primary image if this will be the designated featured or main image on the product page and in trays. Optional Secondary Image for an image swap effect on hover, or leave blank if this is one of several gallery images.
Save your image and continue the process as needed to upload additional images to form a gallery.
Product Image Guidelines and Best Practices
- Acceptable Formats: JPEG (recommended), PNG (if transparency is required), WEBP, GIF (not recommended)
- Resolution: Up to 2000px Width, 72ppi or 144ppi resolution
- File Size: Preferably should not exceed 800k. Up to 1.5 megabytes is acceptable.
- Color Profile: RGB
- Name Format: lowercase, no spaces, no special characters
Example of proper format: my-image.jpg
Bad format: My Image! - Folder Rules in Media Manager: Do not use spaces or special characters in folder names. For optimization purposes, do not exceed 100 items per folder
13. Add Product Variants. This is optional as your base product can serve as the completed product if only one variation exists. Variants become necessary if the product is available in different sizes, colors, or formats. For example, a Film title is a product. Variants are necessary if it is available as a DVD, Blu-ray, or digital format. To add a variant scroll to the bottom of the product page to the Variants section and select the "Add Variant" button.
The Add Variant form page looks almost identical to the product page. That is because it is a "sub-product" of the base product. Add a unique product name and modified sku to help identify this variant. For Example: A book named "The Great Gatsby" can have the hardcover edition named "The Great Gatsby - Hardcover" and the sku could have "hc" appended to the base sku. All other fields are optional and will inherit the base product details unless a different description, price, product image, etc. are entered.
Once all details are added, save the New Product Variant.
You will be returned to the base product page and the variant will be listed at the bottom of the page within the variant table where it can be edited, duplicated to create a new variant, or deleted.
